Camden has a lot to offer visitors to the area. If you’re a candy lover, you’ll enjoy visiting Uncle Willy’s Candy Shoppe. It’s a unique store that features old-fashioned candy and a great old-fashioned atmosphere. It’s also home to the Camden Opera House, a Victorian-style opera house.
Camden Snow Bowl
If you are looking for a unique ski experience, head to the Camden Snow Bowl in Maine. It is a small, town-owned ski area located on the 1,300-foot Ragged Mountain and features a 400-foot toboggan run. In fact, this run is home to the U.S. National Toboggan Championships.
The original lift installed at the snow bowl in 1945 was unable to handle the heavy snowfall of the winter of 1974-75, but a snowmaking system allowed for 40 days of skiing. In 1948, the town of Camden appropriated $1,000 to purchase a new rope tow. The twelve-year-old lift “went to pieces all at once,” and the town purchased a new one to replace it. In addition, volunteers worked on the new wing of the main lodge, and free architectural services were also provided. After the 1966-67 season, snowmaking was installed via helicopter.
The Camden Snow Bowl is a great place for families to spend a day together skiing or snowboarding. Though smaller than some mountain resorts, the terrain is very well maintained and offers beautiful ocean views. The Camden Snow Bowl’s staff is knowledgeable and responsive to any complaints.
Camden Windjammer Festival
Every Labor Day weekend, the Camden Windjammer Festival brings together the town’s maritime heritage with a variety of activities. There are salty crafts, music, and a waterfront auction to name a few. The festival is in its sixteenth year and draws thousands of visitors to Camden.
The festival’s opening day features the largest gathering of schooners in the Northeast. In addition to the schooners, the Camden Windjammer Festival also features exhibitions and displays that celebrate maritime heritage. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the festivities for free. The festival starts with a parade of 18 schooners into the harbor, followed by fireworks over the harbor.
There are a variety of activities for people of all ages. A pancake breakfast and chowder cook-off are two of the highlights of the festival. Other activities include a lobster crate race, a talent show, and a schooner open house.
A windjammer is a traditional sailing boat that has a long and colorful history. These vessels can be seen on the harbor of Camden. Several windjammers stayed overnight for the festival’s opening hours. Barry King, the captain of the Mary Day, has been sailing this schooner for 30 years.
Camden Stables Market
If you’re looking for a day out in London, you’ll find the Stables Market to be an excellent choice. This thriving, bustling marketplace is home to some of the best street art in the city, and many of its unique stores feature local and international designers. There’s also a statue dedicated to Amy Winehouse, who passed away aged just 27 from alcohol poisoning. The statue was created by artist Scott Eaton and features her trademark beehive haircut.
Before it was a bustling marketplace, the Stables Market was a network of saddlers and a horse hospital. The market’s proximity to the Regent’s Canal and King’s Cross railway made it a key spot for transporting goods. Horses also hauled train parts from the canal.
You can also enjoy some of the city’s best street food. There are stalls with a diverse selection of foods to suit every taste. You can sample local cuisines or try a variety of international dishes.
Camden Opera House
When visiting Camden, you’ll want to visit the Opera House, which was built in 1894 and has since hosted a variety of performances. This 500-seat theatre is located on the National Register of Historic Places. It also offers events like concerts and comedy.
There’s also a large park where you can watch a performance. The Camden Harbor Park is a two-acre naturalistic park designed by the Olmsted Brothers in 1928 and 1935. If you’re into music, there’s also the famous North Atlantic Blues Festival.
If you love art, you’ll want to visit the Camden Opera House, a cultural center that hosts dance and musical performances. The 1894 building was also the site of Camden’s first town meeting. While you’re there, you can see performances by local and national artists.

In addition to observing wildlife and birds, you can also watch live performances and enjoy the festivities while relaxing in the park’s gardens. The park is also a popular spot for festivals, art exhibitions, and other major events in the city. Try to arrive early to ensure parking.
Uncle Willy’s
The sounds of giggling children can be unmistakable at Uncle Willy’s Candy Shoppe in Camden. Despite the minor mishaps that may result, these sounds are welcomed by the store owner Matt Sutton. He owns the candy store at 57 Bay View St. in Camden and is proud to welcome children of all ages. During my visit to Uncle Willy’s, I met children from Dallas who were visiting for spring break.
Despite the fact that the candy shoppe is a small place, it has a steady flow of customers and has a wide selection of treats to choose from. The shoppe features a range of flavors, including fudge, sour-tasting truffles, gummy bears, and oversized lollipops. The store also offers in-store pickup and delivery.
